After trying all five types of cuisine, we found quite a few differences and similarities visually, which are best seen in this video:
With COVID-19 restrictions, ordering food is different from the traditional dine-in experience. This week Ayleen Karamat and I tried five different cuisines, except I tried them in Ajax, Canada and she tried them in Lahore, Pakistan. We each tried Italian, sushi, burgers, Mexican and Indian food and compared them to each other.
In Ajax, I decided it would be best to go pick up the food I ordered. Delivery charges are on average $7 to $10. However, in Pakistan, Ayleen only paid about 200 rupees for delivery, which is about $1.66 Canadian dollars.
“Delivery fees here are almost non-existent compared to Canadian food delivery services,” Karamat said.
Ruby Kim, is a student working at the Michelin Star restaurant, The Stay at Lotte Hotel in Seoul, Korea. She has seen a rise in delivery service in the industry.
“I know delivery is increasing and businesses that cater to delivery are benefitting from this situation.”

It’s important to note that I chose options that didn’t have any meat in them because I am a vegetarian. And so, our experiences may have also differed through factors of diet along with the cultural impact of location.
Here are our thoughts for each cuisine:
Food Infographics by Prapti BamaniyaThe restaurants we visited were quite different from one another, and this StoryMap helps to visualize the physical distance between Ayleen and Prapti.
Overall, the foods varied in both countries remarkably. The culture of a country is seen clearly in its food, and because Canadian and Pakistani culture are so different from one another, it was interesting to see the contrast between the two countries.
