People are grocery shopping less often yet spending more during the pandemic, according to a survey conducted by Ryerson journalism students – but we believe that eggs should be on everyone’s shopping lists.
Out of the 27 people surveyed, 80 per cent said that they were shopping once a week before the pandemic.
After COVID-19, however, that number went down to just under 50 per cent.
About a quarter of those surveyed started grocery shopping once every two weeks, when no one had previously.
Over 50 per cent said that they were spending more money on groceries than before.
One solution to this budget problem is to buy more food in bulk, but it’s easy to get sick of eating the same thing every day.
Thankfully, eggs are versatile and can be used in an incredible variety of dishes.
While eggs are perishable, Get Cracking has tips on how to freeze eggs, including how to freeze the yolks so that they can be whisked after thawing instead of being too firm.
They also have a method to clean eggs in case you are worried about other people touching them: first, dip the egg into warm water, then rinse it under cool running water.

Get Cracking is an organization dedicated to and run by Ontario egg farmers, with hundreds of egg recipes ranging from breakfast to dessert featured on their website.
We decided to make a video showing three of our own recipes – one from a beginner cook, one from a home cook, and one from a professional chef.
