Canadian youth believe Biden’s presidency will mainly focus on reverting America back to the pre-Trump era and won’t push the Canadian economy forward.
At the same time, approximately 66 per cent of Canadians hoped Joe Biden would win the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections, according to Global News.

Fernanda Carias-Donis, a worker in trades and services, believes it’s because Biden will cause “less damage” than Trump.
On the other hand, Victoria Almeida, a student at the University of Toronto, said, “With Biden winning, [Americans] are just going back to form.”
In other words, Biden’s promises mainly focus on undoing Trump’s decisions.
For instance, the U.S. became the only country to withdraw from the Paris climate change pact in June 2017 under Trump’s presidency, according to CP24. However, Biden promised to re-introduce the U.S. to the pact during his election campaign.
Further, Biden reportedly has a plan to battle COVID-19 in the U.S. unlike Trump, who opened the U.S. for business despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden’s plan is similar to Canada’s existing COVID-19 lockdown, according to Global News.
Trump also withdrew the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade agreement among 12 countries including Canada, in 2017. Yet Biden hinted at a possibility of re-negotiating the U.S. into the TPP, according to CBC.
With Biden undoing most of Trump’s work, it’s uncertain whether Biden will pave a new road for America or its relations with Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, congratulated Joe Biden and vice-president Kamala Harris on their election win on Twitter after Joe Biden was announced as the winner on Nov. 7, 2020.
Trudeau said he’s “really looking forward” to working with Biden on key issues like COVID and climate change in an official statement.
