Instead of regular sit-down restaurants and fast-food joints, many Torontonians have
ventured out to try themed food spots that have sprung up across the city.
These themed food spots have incorporated unusual and interesting themes to not only
make their venues stand out but give visitors a new experience.
One of a kind views are a theme that restaurants such as the Sportsnet Grill and 360
The Restaurant have adopted.
Sportsnet Grill, located next to the Rogers Centre, gives guests the special option to get
a bird’s-eye view of baseball games. Similarly, guests at 360 The Restaurant can
experience a bird’s-eye view of the city from 351 metres below.
In addition to mesmerizing views, themed restaurants and cafés have also incorporated
fun and interactive elements.
See-Scape is a café, art gallery and gaming lounge, all combined into one lively
atmosphere.
By offering both food and drink, as well as fun and interactive twists, consumers are
more driven to check out these themed food spots. A more engaging atmosphere is
something that guests seem to value.
Themed food spots have also been successful in catching both attention and promotion
from the public by basing their venue of popular TV shows and movies. For instance,
The Lockhart is a Harry Potter inspired themed bar that serves potion inspired cocktails
and tapas to its guests.
All of these elements have contributed to the popularity of themed restaurants in
Toronto.

Innovative themed food spots have allowed Torontonians to gain unique and flavorful
experiences.
The rise of themed cuisine in the city has attracted many consumers to step out of their
comfort zone.
Located in Koreatown, The Poop Café is a washroom-themed café that invites guests to
indulge in Asian-inspired desserts.
Shuyu Van Kerkwijk, a high-school student from the University of Toronto Schools, said
that The Poop Café stands out as opposed to regular dessert spots.
“The ‘poop’ theme is so unique and fits well here. The toilet chairs are crazy. I’m
definitely going to bring friends back here,” said Kerkwijk.

O.NOIR is a restaurant that invites guests to step out of their comfort zone by dining in
complete darkness.
The restaurant strives to not only stimulate its guests’ senses but to allow them to gain a
better understanding of what it is like to be visually-impaired.
In an online statement on the restaurant’s website, O.NOIR founder and former owner,
Moe Alameddine called O.NOIR “a sensual dining experience like no other.”
“[W]hen you eat food in the dark, your remaining senses are heightened to savour the
smell and taste of food. Even everyday dishes like potatoes and yogurt take on a
culinary flare,” stated Alameddine.
Food spots in the city have also caught attention from the public eye by basing their
venue off popular TV shows and movies. This includes Central Café, a spot inspired by
the hit TV show, Friends.

Melanie Knight, a real estate agent from Toronto, said that she admired the atmosphere
of Central Café as soon as she walked in.

Knight said that she watches Friends regularly and was amazed by the café’s
replication of the show’s infamous orange couch and colourful coffee cups.
“I don’t live in the area, but I would come down just to sit here. Because it’s such a
happy vibe and so much more different than other cafes … I wish there were more
places like this in suburban areas instead of just downtown,” she said.
Like Knight said, downtown is filled with a variety of food spots compared to areas
outside of the city’s core. This may be due to not only its large population of citizens and
commuters but its tourist attractions as well.
360 The Restaurant is a food spot located near the top of the CN Tower, one of
Toronto’s most popular tourist attractions.
It is a destination where visitors can not only enjoy high-quality cuisine but experience
its revolving view of the city from 351 metres below.

Nicholas Bhaskaranand, a second-year human biology student at the University of
Toronto, said that the rotating structure was smooth and a fantastic experience.
“I liked that because it was moving, you got an entire view of Toronto and not just one
constant thing to look at,” he said.
Bhaskaranand said that the food and staff met all of his needs and the overall
experience was worth every penny.

By introducing these themes, Torontonians are be driven to try a dining experience that
is out of their element.
