Aboriginal Women: Missing & Murdered

By: Dea Kodra and Urbi Khan

The number of missing and murdered Indigenous women have continued to grow through the decades.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), 1,186 homicides and unresolved missing women investigations have been reported between 1980 and 2012.

The RCMP released a report revealing 32 more Indigenous women were killed in 2013 and 2014 within RCMP jurisdictions, according to their 2014 national overview.

The 2014 national overview by the RCMP was a vital point in establishing a strategy for the investigation regarding missing and murdered Indigenous women cases.
