Food banks in Toronto saw a 15.8 per cent increase in use among people aged 18-30 in 2017, a record high.
Torontonians aged 18-30 used the food bank 15.8 per cent more than last year, according to the Daily Bread Food Bank’s September 2017 “Who’s Hungry” report. The report also stated that 47 per cent of food bank clients skipped meals to pay rent and/or utilities.
“In Toronto especially, it’s clear that the cost of living is high. The number of people we’ve seen cutting meals to afford rent and amenities is inexcusable,” said Benita Aalto, senior communications manager for Daily Bread Food Bank.
