TORONTO- Surveys find that the majority of Ontarians want change with the upcoming 2018 Ontario Provincial Election.

According to a survey conducted by Ryerson journalism students, 22.7 per cent of Ryerson students positively rate Kathleen Wynne’s performance as Premier.

This corresponds with Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Global News that found that 76 per cent of Ontario residents say that change is due at the provincial legislature.

Wynne causes ripples with Ontarians

In a TVO article written by Steve Paikin, broadcaster and journalist for TVO says the privatization of Hydro One created ripples with Ontarians. “There’s significant antipathy to the partial privatization of Hydro One, the provincially owned electricity distribution company,” said Paikin.

Premier Kathleen Wynne supported Hydro One’s take over of U.S energy company Avista for $6.7B. This approved take over was after Wynne announced a legislation to ensure that it would be illegal to use coal-fired plants in Ontario.

Several residents also agree that the Liberal government should be turning more of their attention to transportation. People such as Toronto’s Mayor John Tory, has called out Kathleen Wynne for her lack of commitment to addressing the pressing need for better transportation.

“The most crucial needs of the people of the city of Toronto were not met by this budget,” Tory told Toronto Star reporters in an article. “Premier Kathleen Wynne and her government had a chance to stand up for Toronto on transit and on housing. Instead, at least on the pages of this budget, they turned their backs.”

The 42nd provincial election in Ontario is scheduled to be held on or before June 7, 2018. Premier Kathleen Wynne will have to be active in regaining the trust of voters if she wishes to be elected for another term.
